Visit Motuihe

Plan your trip to the island sanctuary

Motuihe Island / Te Motu-a-Ihenga is just 30 minutes by ferry from downtown Auckland. Sandy beaches, clear waters, sheltered anchorages, and restored native bush make it one of the Hauraki Gulf’s best day-trip and camping destinations.

Walk the coastline at low tide to explore rocky platforms and rock pools, stroll along sandy beaches, or follow bush tracks through native forest where you may spot little spotted kiwi, saddleback, or tuatara. Wide views of the Hauraki Gulf and nearby islands open up from the ridgeline.
